Rancho Bernardo sits in the inland hills northeast of San Diego, where the coastal marine layer gives way to a drier, sunnier climate and the terrain rolls in a way that distinguishes it sharply from the city's waterfront corridors. This part of San Diego County developed rapidly in the postwar decades as a master-planned community, and a private country club became central to its identity — a place where residents could put down roots and build a social life around the game.
