Slite Golfklubb sits on Gotland, Sweden's largest island, a place that occupies a singular position in Scandinavian geography and culture. Rising from the Baltic Sea roughly 90 kilometers east of the mainland, Gotland enjoys more sunshine hours than almost anywhere else in Sweden — a meaningful perk for a golf destination this far north. The island's limestone landscape, medieval town of Visby, and windswept coastline give it a character unlike anything on the Swedish mainland, and that distinctiveness carries over to the golf experience here.
Slite itself is a small industrial harbor town on Gotland's northeastern coast, historically tied to cement production — the Nordkalk limestone quarry has long defined the local economy. The club takes its name and its identity from this working community rather than from any resort ambition, giving it an unpretentious, member-rooted feel that suits the landscape well.
Gotland's relatively flat, open terrain and reliable Baltic breezes mean wind is rarely a neutral factor, and rounds here tend to reward course management as much as raw power. For visiting golfers making the ferry crossing from Nynäshamn or Oskarshamn, Slite is a genuine local discovery on an island that already earns the trip.
