Skellefteå GK sits in the heart of Västerbotten, a county that defines Swedish golf's relationship with light and latitude. This far north — roughly level with the tip of Alaska — summer rounds stretch deep into the evening under a sun that barely sets, and the brief but intense growing season gives the fairways a lush, almost electric green that catches visiting golfers off guard. The club has been a cornerstone of organized golf in this part of northern Sweden for decades, serving a community that takes its sport seriously despite, or perhaps because of, the long winters that make every summer round feel earned.
The course plays through the boreal landscape typical of inland Norrland — pine and birch framing the holes, with the terrain shaped by glacial history rather than dramatic elevation change. What it lacks in mountain drama it compensates with an intimate, woodsy character where accuracy off the tee matters more than raw power.
Skellefteå itself is an industrial town with genuine civic pride, historically rooted in mining and forestry and now associated with Sweden's battery and green-tech boom. The club reflects that same unpretentious, community-first character — a proper members' course where the golf is taken seriously and the evening rounds under the midnight sun are simply part of local life.
