Few private clubs in Nebraska carry the reputation that Firethorn Golf Club has built since opening in 1984 on Lincoln's southeast side. Designed by Jeff Brauer, the course winds through mature hardwoods and rolling terrain that feels genuinely removed from the surrounding city — a landscape that rewards patient, strategic play rather than raw power. Firethorn has long been considered one of the premier private layouts in the state, consistently appearing on Nebraska's top-course lists and serving as a proving ground for the region's better players.
The design reflects Brauer's interest in variety and shot-making, with tree-lined corridors, subtle doglegs, and greens that demand precise approach angles. Playing to a par 71, the routing uses the land efficiently, mixing longer tests with shorter holes that punish careless play. The club has hosted numerous high-level amateur events and USGA qualifiers over the years, underscoring its standing in the local golf community.
Lincoln itself is a college town with a genuine golf culture, and Firethorn sits comfortably at the top of that scene — the kind of place members take quiet pride in belonging to.
