Rio Pinar has one of the more storied identities in central Florida golf. The club hosted the Florida Citrus Open on the PGA Tour for much of the 1970s, making it a legitimate stop on the national circuit during an era when Orlando was still finding its footing as a golf destination. Names like Gary Player and Lee Trevino competed on these fairways, and that tournament pedigree gave Rio Pinar a reputation that extends well beyond its zip code.
The course sits in east Orlando, where the terrain is characteristically flat but the mature tree canopy — the kind that takes decades to establish — gives it a shaded, settled quality that newer Florida layouts rarely achieve. Water features into play in the manner typical of central Florida design, but the overall feel leans more toward a traditional parkland round than the resort-style spectacle that dominates much of the region.
As a private club, Rio Pinar serves a membership that values history and continuity. The sense here is of a course that has earned its standing the old-fashioned way — through longevity, serious competition, and a genuine connection to the community it has served since the mid-20th century.
