Anthony sits in the narrow strip of the Mesilla Valley where New Mexico and Texas trade borders and the Rio Grande has been shaping this stretch of the Chihuahuan Desert for centuries. The town itself straddles the state line, and the surrounding landscape is defined by pecan orchards, irrigated farmland, and the rugged desert backdrop of the Franklin Mountains to the south — a setting that gives any round here a distinctly borderland character unlike most courses in the Southwest.
As a private members' club in a small community, Anthony CC almost certainly exists to serve its members rather than chase rankings or outside acclaim. That intimacy tends to produce a course with genuine local personality — the kind of place where regulars know every bounce and break, and where the membership itself is the whole point.
At par 70, the layout leans shorter and more strategic than a traditional par-72 test, likely rewarding accuracy and course management over raw power. In this desert climate, firm and fast conditions are the norm, and the persistent winds off the valley floor can turn a modest yardage into a genuine examination.
