Vermont National Country Club occupies a distinctive place in the Green Mountain State's golf landscape — it's home to the only course designed by Jack Nicklaus in Vermont. Built in the late 1990s on rolling farmland south of Burlington, the layout reflects Nicklaus's trademark strategic demands: wide-enough corridors that reward bold lines off the tee, but with approaches and greens that punish imprecision. The terrain gives it a genuine Vermont character — open elevation changes, long views toward the Adirondacks to the west, and the kind of light that shifts dramatically through the seasons.
South Burlington sits just minutes from Lake Champlain, and the surrounding countryside feels more expansive than the dense woodland golf of southern New England. Vermont National leans into that openness, with a parkland feel that still carries the rugged edges of the northern landscape.
As a private club, it draws a membership serious about the game, and Nicklaus's design gives them a course with lasting strategic interest — one where the correct shot, not merely the long one, is almost always the right answer.
