Few golf courses in the British Isles can claim a setting quite like this one. The Isles of Scilly sit 28 miles off the southwestern tip of Cornwall, a scattered archipelago of around 140 islands where the Atlantic dominates the climate, the light shifts with remarkable speed, and the pace of life bears little resemblance to the mainland. Getting here requires either a small aircraft or a ferry from Penzance, which means that simply arriving is something of an occasion.
The course occupies land on St Mary's, the largest of the islands, and plays across terrain shaped by the sea on all sides. Wind is not an occasional factor here — it is the course's co-designer on any given day, turning a modest layout into something that demands genuine shot-making and local knowledge. The natural surroundings, including heathland, coastal vegetation, and those extraordinary ocean views, do most of the architectural work.
This is golf stripped back to something essential. No corporate hospitality, no grandstand finishing holes engineered for television — just a game played on a remote island at the edge of England, which for many golfers is exactly the point.
