Golfclub Gera operates out of Harth-Pöllnitz, a small community on the eastern fringe of Gera in the state of Thuringia. The club is one of the established golf operations in this part of eastern Germany, a region that has steadily built out its golf infrastructure since reunification in the early 1990s. Gera itself is Thuringia's third-largest city, sitting in the valley of the White Elster river, and the surrounding countryside — a rolling mix of light woodland, open meadows, and gentle ridgelines — provides the kind of unhurried, natural setting that characterizes golf in this part of central Europe.
The course plays through that characteristic Thuringian landscape, where tree-lined corridors and changes in elevation keep the routing interesting across the full round. It is the sort of club where the game still feels like a local institution rather than a commercial product.
For visitors, this is a window into the quieter side of German golf — regional, unpretentious, and genuinely rooted in its community, offering a contrast to the resort-driven courses further west.
