Few golf clubs in northeastern Massachusetts carry a history as long as Haverhill Country Club. Founded in the early 20th century, the club has been part of the fabric of this Merrimack River city for well over a century, evolving through the decades while retaining the intimate, members-first character that defines private clubs of its era.
The course sits in the heart of the greater Merrimack Valley, where the terrain is classically New England — firm turf, mature trees, and land that rolls with purpose rather than drama. At par 70, the layout makes demands on precision and course management rather than raw power, rewarding players who shape shots and think their way around rather than simply overpower the card.
Haverhill itself occupies an interesting corner of the regional golf scene, positioned between the Boston commuter belt to the south and the more rugged country of southern New Hampshire to the north. Members here play a course rooted in tradition and shaped by seasons that shift dramatically from the mud of April through the crisp, ideal conditions of a Massachusetts October.
