Golf d'Ableiges

The Île-de-France region north of Paris holds a surprisingly rich concentration of golf, and Golf d'Ableiges — sitting in the Val-d'Oise département roughly 35 kilometres from the capital — is one of its more established clubs. The course occupies the gently rolling countryside of the Vexin plateau, a landscape of open farmland and wooded edges that gives the layout a sense of breadth unusual for courses this close to a major city. It opened in the late 1980s, a period when golf in France was expanding rapidly with strong institutional backing, and it has since built a loyal regional membership.

The design works with the natural contours of the plateau, using mature tree lines to define fairways and create strategic angles off the tee. The ground plays firm in summer, rewarding bump-and-run approaches, while autumn brings softer conditions and vivid color from the surrounding woodland. It is a club that takes its golf seriously without pretension.

Val-d'Oise is commuter country, but Ableiges itself remains a quiet village, and the course retains a genuinely rural feel — a proper escape from the périphérique, even if Paris is little more than half an hour away.
