Few courses in the Twin Cities metro carry the architectural pedigree that The Wilds does. Designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish and opened in 1995, the course was built on rolling terrain in Scott County that gives it a surprisingly dramatic, almost rugged character for the Minnesota flatlands. Weiskopf and Morrish were producing some of their finest collaborative work during this era, and The Wilds stands as one of the stronger examples of that partnership in the Upper Midwest — a course that moves through natural wetlands, native grasses, and tree lines in a way that feels genuinely discovered rather than manufactured.
Prior Lake sits at the southwestern edge of the metro, and the landscape here has more contour and texture than many visitors expect. The Wilds takes full advantage of it, routing holes across elevation changes that create genuine drama off the tee and demand real course management on approach shots.
Once a resort destination anchored by the Mystic Lake Casino complex, The Wilds now operates as a public-access facility and remains one of the most substantive daily-fee experiences in the region — the kind of course that rewards players who actually pay attention.
