Few courses in the New York metropolitan area carry the mystique of Hudson National. Designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 1996, the club occupies a dramatically elevated site above the Hudson River in Westchester County, and the views across the water toward the Catskills rank among the most spectacular of any private course in the Northeast. Golf Digest has consistently placed it among the top courses in New York State, and its reputation within serious golf circles is formidable — this is a club that earns its prestige on the ground, not just on paper.
Fazio routed the layout across rolling, wooded terrain that demanded substantial earthmoving, producing a course of bold contours, firm and fast playing surfaces, and greens that reward precision approach play above all else. The par-70 format reflects the land's realities — length was never the point here. Shot-making, course management, and reading subtle breaks are what separate scores.
Croton-on-Hudson sits about an hour north of Midtown Manhattan, where the Hudson Valley's mix of forested ridges and river light gives the area a character well removed from the city's intensity. Hudson National channels that landscape rather than fighting it.
