Few stretches of northern Michigan pack as much natural drama as the Charlevoix shoreline, where Lake Michigan, Lake Charlevoix, and Round Lake converge in a tangle of water, dunes, and dense hardwood forest. The Charlevoix Country Club sits within this landscape, a private members' club that reflects the genteel summer-resort character the town has cultivated since the late 19th century, when Chicago and Detroit families began arriving by steamship to escape the heat of the cities. Golf followed that migration naturally, and courses like this one became anchors of the seasonal social calendar.
As a private club in a resort community, the course tends to serve a membership that prizes tradition and familiarity — regular playing partners, established rituals, a rhythm tied to the short but spectacular northern Michigan summer when the days are long and the light stays golden well into evening.
Charlevoix itself is one of the more charming small towns in the Great Lakes region, known for its Earl Young mushroom-stone cottages, its drawbridge, and its unhurried pace. Playing golf here means being thoroughly embedded in all of that.
