Menominee sits at the mouth of the Menominee River where Michigan's Upper Peninsula meets Wisconsin, a working-class industrial town that has quietly maintained a genuine golf culture for generations. The city faces Marinette, Wisconsin directly across the river, and the twin-city community has long supported local sport and recreation with a no-frills, unpretentious spirit that carries over to its golf.
Riverside Golf Club fits that character well. An 18-hole, par-72 layout rooted in the community rather than resort ambition, it's the kind of course that rewards regular members who learn its rhythms over years of play — the sort of place where local knowledge matters and the regulars know exactly which holes the wind turns tricky on an afternoon in July.
The Upper Peninsula's short golf season sharpens the appetite for the game up here. Summers are brilliant and fleeting, the greens stay firm and fast in the lake-cooled air, and when the season closes the memory of a good round carries you a long way into winter.
