Few golf destinations on the Kitsap Peninsula carry the reputation White Horse does. Designed by John Fought and opened in 2003, the course occupies a dramatic piece of forested terrain north of Kingston, where towering Douglas firs frame nearly every hole and the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges occasionally pierce the skyline on clear days. Fought, a former PGA Tour winner who also shaped Pumpkin Ridge in Oregon, brought genuine architectural ambition to this corner of Washington — routing holes through natural wetlands and stands of old growth in a way that demands strategic thinking rather than simple ball-striking.
White Horse has earned consistent recognition among Washington's finest public courses, appreciated for holes that reward course management and punish wayward misses without feeling artificially penal. The layout plays firm and fast in summer but softens considerably through the long Pacific Northwest wet season, when the firs close in and the course takes on an intimate, almost primeval atmosphere.
Kingston itself is a small ferry-landing community on the north end of Kitsap, an easy sail from Seattle's waterfront — making White Horse a genuinely worthwhile detour for visiting golfers crossing Puget Sound.
