Somersett Country Club sits within one of Reno's most ambitious master-planned communities, a residential development that unfolds across the foothills northwest of the city. The course was designed by Tom Kite and J. Michael Poellot and opened in 2005, routing across terrain that climbs and rolls through high-desert landscape — sagebrush, dramatic elevation changes, and long views toward the Sierra Nevada. As a private facility serving Somersett's homeowner community, the club carries the feel of a neighborhood anchor — the kind of place where members build their golfing lives over years rather than making a single-destination visit. The conditioning and pace of play reflect that culture of ownership and familiarity.
Reno's high desert sits at roughly 4,500 feet of elevation, which means the ball flies noticeably farther than at sea level. Winters are real here, limiting the season, but late spring through fall offers crisp mornings, low humidity, and some of the clearest skies in the American West.
