The surrounding lowland terrain is flat and open in the way of Gulf Coast golf — no dramatic elevation changes, but the trade-off is that the breeze is almost always a factor, and reading it correctly matters more than power. Bermuda turf and the occasional coastal water hazard are standard features of the landscape down here, and the course fits that regional template.

Galveston itself carries a rich history as one of Texas's oldest cities, once the state's wealthiest. That sense of layered character — resort polish over a gritty, storm-tested island — gives a round here a flavor you don't find inland.
