Commonwealth Golf Club stands among the most respected private members' clubs in Melbourne, a city that punches well above its weight in world golf. Designed by the celebrated Alister MacKenzie — the same architect behind Augusta National and Cypress Point — the course was laid out in the early 1920s and remains a testament to his genius for routing land with minimal artifice. MacKenzie's fingerprints are everywhere: bold, contoured greens that reward strategic thought, natural-feeling bunkering that looks inevitable rather than imposed, and a layout that uses its sandy Sandbelt terrain to produce firm, fast conditions most of the year.
