Meltham Golf Club sits on the high moorland fringe south of Huddersfield, in the Colne Valley corridor where West Yorkshire gives way to the open Pennine uplands. This is classic northern English hillside golf — exposed, honest, and entirely unimpressed by airs and graces. The course occupies ground that rewards local knowledge, with the kind of turf that drains fast in summer and bites back hard in a westerly.
The village of Meltham itself is a small mill town community, and the club carries that character: a members' club in the truest sense, built and sustained by people who actually live here and play here through all four seasons. Par 70 suits the moorland template well — expect a layout that prizes accuracy and course management over raw power, where the terrain does much of the design work.
For visiting golfers, the draw is the landscape as much as the golf itself. Wide skies, sweeping views across the valley, and an authenticity that more manicured destinations simply cannot manufacture.
