Wilbur sits in Lincoln County, deep in the channeled scablands of eastern Washington — a landscape carved by the catastrophic Ice Age floods that shaped the entire Columbia Plateau. It's spare, open country: wheat fields rolling toward the horizon, basalt outcroppings, and big sky in every direction. Golf out here is a world away from the tree-lined parkland courses of the Puget Sound side of the Cascades, and that contrast is part of the appeal.
Big Bend Golf & Country Club takes its name from the broad horseshoe curve the Columbia River makes through this region before turning south toward the Tri-Cities. As a private members' club serving a small agricultural community, it functions the way country clubs historically did in rural America — as a genuine social and recreational anchor for the people who live and work nearby, not a destination resort or a status address.
What a course like this offers is something increasingly rare: golf that belongs to a place and its community rather than to a market. Expect honest, unhurried play on terrain shaped by one of North America's most dramatic geological stories.
