Golf- & Landclub Karwendel e.V.

Wallgau sits at the southern tip of Bavaria, where the Isar valley narrows toward the Austrian border and the Karwendel massif rises dramatically to the south — one of the most striking mountain backdrops in all of European golf. The Golf- & Landclub Karwendel occupies this high-alpine terrain, and the landscape does most of the talking: fairways framed by dense pine and larch forest, with the limestone peaks of the Karwendel range visible from virtually every hole. Playing here means contending with genuine alpine conditions — firm turf in dry summers, cooler temperatures than the Munich lowlands even in July, and the ever-present föhn wind that can sweep down unpredictably from the mountains.

The club carries the feel of a proper Bavarian Landclub — a members' institution with a strong social identity, the kind of place where a round extends naturally into the clubhouse afterward with a beer and a schnitzel on the terrace.

The Karwendel is not a long course by modern standards, but the mountain terrain demands accurate, thoughtful golf. Misjudge the elevation changes or a crosswind off the peaks, and the scorecard suffers quickly.
