Hunting Hawk Golf Club sits in Glen Allen, a suburban community just north of Richmond that has grown considerably since the course opened in the early 1990s. Designed by Curtis Strange — the two-time U.S. Open champion turned architect — the layout was built to wind through the wooded, rolling terrain characteristic of central Virginia's Piedmont plateau. Strange brought a player's instinct to the design, favoring holes that reward strategic thinking over raw power and that use the natural contours of the land rather than manufactured drama.
The course has earned a loyal following among Richmond-area golfers as a daily-fee option that plays with more polish and character than the category might suggest. Mature hardwoods frame most fairways, creating definition and a sense of enclosure that makes it feel removed from the surrounding development. Autumn is a particularly compelling time to play, when the Virginia hardwood canopy turns and the course takes on a different kind of visual weight.
