Sunndal Golfklubb

Sunndal Golfklubb sits at the inner end of Sunndalsfjorden, one of the longest fjords in Møre og Romsdal, where the water narrows and the valley walls rise steeply on either side. The course occupies flat river-plain terrain typical of Norwegian fjord heads — the kind of landscape carved by glacial meltwater over millennia — giving it a relatively open, meadow-like character that contrasts sharply with the dramatic mountain backdrop surrounding it on nearly every side. Sunndalsøra itself is a small industrial town, home to a major Hydro aluminium smelter, and the club draws its membership largely from the tight-knit local community rather than tourist traffic.

Golf this far into a west Norwegian fjord valley means playing in a genuinely sheltered microclimate — the surrounding peaks buffer the Atlantic weather somewhat, though the season remains short by continental standards. The light in midsummer, when rounds can stretch into the late evening hours under the midnight sun's glow, is one of those experiences no scorecard can capture.
