Montecatini Golf sits in the Valdinievole, the broad valley floor between Pistoia and the thermal spa town of Montecatini Terme, in one of Tuscany's most historically rich corners. The surrounding landscape is flat by Tuscan standards — reclaimed marshland bordered by the foothills of the Apennines — and the course makes the most of its position, with the Monte Albano ridge and the hilltop village of Monsummano Alto visible from much of the property. It is a setting that rewards slow play in the best possible sense: you are reminded constantly that you are somewhere worth paying attention to.
The course plays through mature trees and water features that bring genuine strategic interest to what might otherwise be gentle terrain. Designed to appeal to a broad range of abilities, it functions as the area's primary club for residents and spa visitors alike, drawing a mix of serious local members and tourists extending a wellness holiday into something more sporting.
The Valdinievole has produced thermal baths, olive oil, and a particular unhurried pace of life that carries onto the fairways. This is not a course that demands your reverence — it earns your affection instead.
