Cable sits in the heart of Wisconsin's Northwoods, a region defined by dense stands of birch and pine, hundreds of glacial lakes, and winters that draw cross-country skiers from across the Midwest. The town is perhaps best known as home base for the American Birkebeiner, the largest cross-country ski race in North America — which tells you something about the landscape waiting beyond the fairways here. Telemark Golf Course occupies terrain shaped by the last ice age, where elevation changes, wetlands, and mature forest are simply part of the backdrop.
As a resort-area layout in this corner of Bayfield County, Telemark plays through classic Northwoods scenery — the kind of setting where wildlife sightings mid-round are routine and the natural surroundings do much of the design work. At par 72 over 18 holes, it offers a full test without pretension, appealing to vacationing families and serious players alike.
The golf here fits the spirit of Cable itself: unhurried, genuinely scenic, and rooted in a landscape that rewards attention. This is a place where the drive up Highway 63 through the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest is part of the experience before you ever pull a club.
