Few resort courses in the American Northwest have earned the kind of genuine international attention that Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course commands — and the floating green on the par-3 14th hole is the reason most people have heard of it. That island green, reached entirely by boat, sits on Lake Coeur d'Alene itself and is repositioned daily, altering the carry distance each round. It's a theatrical touch, but the course beneath the spectacle is genuinely well-crafted, winding through tall pines along the lake's edge with views that would distract even the most focused player.
The setting in the Idaho Panhandle is hard to overstate. Coeur d'Alene sits at the edge of a strikingly clear glacial lake surrounded by forested mountains, and the course uses that landscape deliberately rather than decoratively. Scott Miller designed the layout, which opened in 1991 and quickly became a bucket-list destination for golfers traveling through the Pacific Northwest.
This is unabashedly a resort experience — caddies, pristine conditioning, and lakeside atmosphere are all part of the package. The golf itself rewards accuracy over power, with water, elevation changes, and tight pine corridors demanding patience and course management throughout.
