The Ranch Golf & Country Club

Alberta's farming country northwest of Edmonton doesn't immediately suggest golf, but The Ranch Golf & Country Club has built one of the province's most respected private clubs out of exactly that landscape. Opened in 1999 and designed by Gary Browning, the course works across rolling terrain that mixes open prairie with stands of mature spruce and poplar — the kind of setting that gives Edmonton-area golf its particular character. The Ranch earned a reputation quickly, ranking consistently among Alberta's top courses and drawing members who wanted something more serious than the typical suburban layout.

Browning's design uses the natural contours of the land rather than fighting them, producing holes that ask real questions without manufacturing artificial drama. The routing rewards players who shape the ball and think their way around, and the greens tend to run quick and true — a premium on the approach shot is a consistent theme throughout.

Acheson sits just west of Edmonton's city limits, close enough for easy commutes but far enough that the club retains a genuine rural feel.
