Mt. Airy sits in the Surry County foothills of northwestern North Carolina, where the Blue Ridge begins its rise out of the Piedmont. It's Andy Griffith's hometown, a fact locals wear with quiet pride, and the surrounding landscape — rolling pasture, hardwood ridges, creek-cut hollows — gives any golf course built here a natural sense of contour and season. Foliage in October can be as good as anywhere in the Carolinas.
Cross Creek Country Club is a private members' club, which in a small, tight-knit community like Mt. Airy means something particular.
