Scrabo Golf Club

Few settings in Irish golf are as immediately arresting as Scrabo Hill, where this members' club has occupied the high ground above Newtownards since the late 19th century. The course plays across and around the basalt ridge crowned by Scrabo Tower, the Victorian sandstone landmark that watches over Strangford Lough and the Ards Peninsula below — making orientation here both literal and visual. That elevated position means exposure: wind is not an occasional factor but a permanent playing partner, and conditions can swing dramatically within a single round.

Newtownards sits at the head of Strangford Lough in County Down, one of the most historically rich corners of Northern Ireland. The lough itself — one of the largest in the British Isles — defines the regional character, and its presence is felt from virtually every point on the course.
