Few golf experiences in the Pacific Northwest carry the atmospheric weight of a name like Ghost Creek. Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club's more accessible of its 2 courses, Ghost Creek opened in 1992 alongside its private sibling, Witch Hollow, as part of one of the most celebrated golf developments in Oregon history. Designed by Bob Cupp, the course winds through the Tualatin Valley's rolling terrain northwest of Portland, where Douglas firs frame the fairways and the Cascade foothills sit on the horizon. Cupp gave it a design that rewards strategic thinking without punishing recreational golfers — a course that earns its reputation as both a serious test and a genuinely enjoyable walk.
Ghost Creek has punched well above its weight on the national stage. The course hosted multiple USGA amateur championships through the 1990s and 2000s, and the Futures Tour made it a regular stop. Tiger Woods won the 1996 US Amateur here at Pumpkin Ridge, a moment that placed this corner of Washington County firmly on golf's map.
North Plains sits in a stretch of Oregon farmland about 25 miles west of Portland, where the climate runs predictably cool and damp for much of the year. Afternoon rounds in summer, though, reveal the valley at its finest — open skies, soft light, and the kind of unhurried golf culture the region does particularly well.
