Among Madison's most beloved public tracks, Odana Hills has been a fixture of the city's golf scene since the early 1960s, operated by the Madison Parks division and serving generations of locals who learned the game here before moving on to the region's more demanding private clubs. It occupies gently rolling terrain on the west side of the city, where the land opens up in ways that give the course a more spacious feel than you'd expect from a municipal layout tucked inside a major urban area.
The design leans traditional — tree-lined fairways, varied hole lengths, and a routing that rewards local knowledge as much as raw power. Odana has long functioned as a community anchor: the kind of place where junior programs thrive, leagues fill the tee sheet on weekday evenings, and regulars know the staff by name.
Madison itself has a genuinely strong public golf culture, and Odana Hills sits comfortably at its center — accessible, well-maintained for a municipal, and representative of why the city punches above its weight in everyday golf.
