Monte Cimone takes its name from the highest peak in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, a mountain that dominates the skyline above Sestola and defines the character of everything at this elevation. Sestola itself is a medieval hill town in the Modena province, better known to Italians as a winter ski destination than a golfing address — which immediately signals that this is not a conventional parkland layout. Playing golf here means playing in mountain air, on terrain shaped by the Apennine spine rather than flattened for convenience.
A par of 68 tells you something important before you even arrive: this is a course built around the landscape rather than against it. Shorter holes, likely with elevation changes that compress or extend carry distances in ways no yardage figure captures, and a routing that almost certainly rewards course management and local knowledge over raw power.
For visiting golfers, the draw is as much the setting as the scorecard. The Modena Apennines offer cool summers when the Po Valley below bakes, and a distinctly Italian mountain sensibility — unhurried, scenic, and far removed from the resort-golf mainstream.
