Starmount Forest Country Club carries one of the more storied names in Piedmont North Carolina golf. The club was established in the early 20th century and its course was designed by Donald Ross, the Scottish-born architect whose fingerprints are on more great American courses than anyone else's. Ross's routing at Starmount Forest reflects his characteristic philosophy: subtly crowned greens that shed misplayed approaches, demanding short-game situations, and a layout that rewards strategic thinking over raw power. The par-71 configuration is not accidental — it produces a track that feels complete without relying on length alone.
Greensboro itself sits in the heart of the Piedmont Triad, a region with a genuine golf identity that has long punched above its weight. The city has hosted major professional and amateur events over the decades, and clubs like Starmount Forest are part of the reason the area developed that reputation.
As a private members' club, the atmosphere here is rooted in tradition and community. The golf is Piedmont through and through — rolling, tree-lined, and demanding enough to keep a scratch player honest while remaining an honest day's work for the mid-handicapper.
