Peru's mining highlands don't often appear on golfers' radar, but Cuajone Country Club exists for a specific reason: it serves the community built around the massive Cuajone copper mine in Moquegua region, one of the largest open-pit mining operations in South America. Villa Cuajone is a company town in the fullest sense, and the club — like the settlement itself — was created to give workers and their families a complete, self-contained life at elevation. That origin story shapes everything about this place.
At par 66, the course is a short-course design by intent, not accident. At the altitude of the Andean foothills, the air is thin enough that the ball travels significantly farther than it would at sea level, which partly offsets the abbreviated layout and keeps the challenge honest.
