Merapi Golf

Merapi Golf takes its name from Gunung Merapi, the highly active stratovolcano that dominates the northern skyline of Yogyakarta and serves as the course's most dramatic backdrop. Laid out on the volcanic slopes north of the city in Sleman Regency, this is one of the most visually striking settings in Indonesian golf — the mountain's cone rising sharply above the fairways creates a sense of scale that few courses anywhere can match. Merapi last erupted significantly in 2010, and the fertile volcanic soil that makes the surrounding region so agriculturally rich also gives the course its lush, dense turf.

Yogyakarta itself is one of Java's cultural heartlands, home to the royal Kraton palace, the temples of Borobudur and Prambanan nearby, and a city that takes pride in preserving Javanese artistic tradition. The tropical climate means year-round playability, though the wet season between November and March can soften the course considerably.
