Dallas has been playing golf at Tenison Park since 1924, making it one of the oldest municipal courses in Texas. The city-owned layout sits in East Dallas along White Rock Creek, and it carries the kind of working-class legacy that defines great American public golf — a place where the game has always belonged to everyone. Tenison famously served as an early stomping ground for Lee Trevino, who sharpened his game and his hustling instincts on these fairways before becoming one of the sport's all-time greats. That piece of history alone gives the place a gravitational pull for anyone who knows the game.
The course occupies mature, tree-lined terrain typical of Dallas's older parkland corridors, where native pecans and post oaks frame the fairways and demand straight driving. The North Texas climate means firm, fast conditions through the summer months and a longer playing season than most of the country can claim.
For a municipal, Tenison Park carries real weight — a course with a genuine past rather than a manufactured identity, still accessible to the everyday golfer a century after it opened.
