Few golf destinations in New York State offer quite the setting that comes with playing in the Adirondack Park — the largest publicly protected area in the contiguous United States, a wilderness of some 6 million acres of lakes, forest, and mountain ridgelines. Tupper Lake sits near the heart of it, a small working-class town with a genuine North Woods character distinct from the more resort-polished Adirondack communities. The real draw, of course, is the landscape itself. Adirondack golf in late summer and early fall, with hardwoods beginning to turn and the air carrying that particular cool sharpness off the water, is an experience few courses anywhere in the Northeast can match on pure atmosphere alone.
