Pete Dye returned to his home state of Indiana to design this course at the historic French Lick Resort, and the result is about as demanding a public-access layout as you'll find anywhere in the Midwest. Opened in 2009 and perched high in the Hoosier National Forest atop Tillery Hill, the course plays at elevation well above the valley below, delivering panoramic ridge-and-hollow views across the Orange County hills that are genuinely unlike anything else in Indiana. It has drawn serious national attention — Golf Digest has ranked it among the best public courses in the country, and it has hosted multiple Legends Tour events as well as Big Ten championships.
Dye's fingerprints are unmistakable throughout: steep forced carries, railroad ties, punishing rough falloffs, and greens that demand precise approach angles. The wind at elevation compounds every decision.
French Lick itself is one of Indiana's great old resort destinations, famous for its mineral springs and grand early-20th-century hotels. The Pete Dye Course leans fully into that sense of occasion — this is a destination round, not a casual afternoon out.
