Húsafellsvöllur

Few golf experiences anywhere match the sheer geological drama of playing in Iceland's Borgarfjörður valley. Húsafellsvöllur sits near the small settlement of Húsafell, a place Icelanders have long treated as a kind of inland sanctuary — hot springs, ancient lava fields, and the looming mass of Eiríksjökull glacier forming the backdrop to a course that feels genuinely remote even by Icelandic standards. The surrounding Hallmundarhraun lava field, one of the largest in Iceland, gives the landscape an otherworldly texture that no architect could manufacture.

The course itself is a compact layout that rewards local knowledge — the Arctic wind shifts unpredictably through the valley, turning a short iron into a genuine puzzle. Summer play benefits from the midnight sun, and the club is well accustomed to visitors making a round part of a broader highland adventure, often combining golf with the nearby Húsafell Canyon, glacier walks, or the geothermal bathing at Krauma.

Reykholt, a few kilometers down the valley, carries enormous historical weight as the home of Snorri Sturluson, the 13th-century Icelandic scholar and chieftain. That sense of deep, unhurried Icelandic character permeates this whole corner of the Western Region — and it follows you around the course.
