Delta sits at the confluence of the Gunnison and Uncompahgre rivers in western Colorado, a high-desert agricultural town framed by the dramatic mesas and canyon country that define this corner of the state. The surrounding landscape — sagebrush flats, red-rock formations, and the looming Grand Mesa to the northeast — gives the region a rugged, wide-open character that distinguishes it sharply from Colorado's more celebrated mountain resort corridors.
Devil's Thumb Golf Club carries a name well-suited to its surroundings. The "Devil's Thumb" is a recognizable rock formation in the region, and a course wearing that label tends to promise terrain with some personality — elevation changes, exposure to the elements, and views that reward a player willing to look up from their scorecard.
