Stewartville sits in the Root River valley of southeastern Minnesota, a corner of the state shaped more by glacial outwash and limestone bluffs than the flat prairie most outsiders picture when they think of Minnesota. The rolling terrain here gives golf courses something to work with, and the region's mix of oak, hickory, and river bottomland creates a setting that reads more like Wisconsin or Iowa than the Twin Cities corridor 90 miles to the north.
Riverview Greens, as the name suggests, likely draws on the river corridor landscape that defines this part of Olmsted County — fairways and greens framed by the natural contours of land that drains toward the Root River. That kind of terrain tends to reward course designers with natural elevation changes, tree-lined corridors, and views that flat-land layouts simply can't manufacture.
Stewartville is a working town adjacent to Rochester, home of the Mayo Clinic, which means this course serves a genuine local community — the kind of everyday municipal or semi-private operation that forms the backbone of American golf. Expect a friendly, unpretentious round rooted in the landscape.
