Colovista Golf Club sits along the Colorado River in Bastrop County, one of the more quietly compelling pockets of Texas Hill Country transition zone. The land here is defined by the Lost Pines — a remarkable, isolated stand of loblolly pines that exists well east of where the species has any business growing, a geological relic that gives Bastrop its distinctive identity. Playing golf through this terrain feels genuinely different from the sun-baked, wide-open courses that dominate much of central Texas.
The Colorado River corridor shapes both the topography and the atmosphere at Colovista, with elevation changes and wooded corridors that put a premium on placement off the tee. This is not a course that rewards pure power — the pines crowd landing zones and the river comes into play in ways that make course management the real scorecard.
Bastrop itself is a small historic town about 30 miles southeast of Austin, close enough to draw weekend golfers from the metro but far enough to feel like an escape. The local golf scene is unhurried, and Colovista serves as its centerpiece.
