One of New Hampshire's older private clubs, Newport Golf Club has been a cornerstone of golf in the Sullivan County region for well over a century. The course occupies the kind of rolling, wooded New England terrain that shapes golf naturally — elevation changes earned rather than manufactured, and tree lines that define fairways without apology. It plays as a genuine test of positioning and course management rather than raw power, which is exactly what a par-71 layout in this part of the world tends to reward.
Newport itself sits in the upper Connecticut River valley, a small mill-era city surrounded by the hills and hardwood forests of western New Hampshire. The golf season here runs roughly May through October, and autumn play in particular can be genuinely spectacular — the foliage transforms the course into something that feels almost theatrical.
As a private members' club, Newport Golf Club carries the unhurried, community-rooted character that defines the best of New England's smaller clubs: known to those who belong, earned by those who join, and largely invisible to everyone else.
