Few private clubs on Long Island carry as much mystique as The Bridge. Opened in 2004 and designed by Rees Jones, the course was built on the former site of a sand and gravel quarry in Bridgehampton, and that industrial past shaped something genuinely unusual — a landscape of dramatic elevation changes, exposed sandy waste areas, and open, wind-scoured terrain that feels unlike anything else in the Hamptons. Jones worked with the natural contours rather than against them, producing a layout that rewards strategic thinking and punishes overconfidence in equal measure.
The course sits in Southampton Township, deep in the eastern Long Island wine country, where the flat potato fields and ocean light of the South Fork give way here to something rawer and more rugged. The prevailing Atlantic winds off Mecox Bay are a constant factor, turning manageable holes into genuine tests depending on the day.
The Bridge has drawn comparisons to links-influenced designs despite being inland, and its membership — drawn heavily from the Manhattan and Hamptons social world — has made it one of the more exclusive addresses in American club golf.
