Few golf experiences in Southwest Florida carry quite the mystique of Calusa Pines. A private club with a deliberately limited membership, it was designed by Bobby Weed and opened in the early 2000s with an explicit goal: to create a walking-only, caddie-facilitated experience that recalls the game's older traditions. No golf carts roam the property. You carry your bag or take a caddie, and you play at a pace that lets the course breathe around you. That philosophy alone sets it apart in a region saturated with resort-style layouts built for maximum throughput.
Weed routed the course through pine flatwoods and around natural wetlands, leaning into the native Florida landscape rather than engineering it away. The result is a course that feels genuinely wild for this part of the state — wide corridors of longleaf pine, firm and fast conditions when maintained at its best, and a quietness that's increasingly rare in Naples golf.
Naples itself is one of the wealthiest golf markets in the country, with more courses per capita than almost anywhere in Florida. Calusa Pines sits at the top of that hierarchy by choice, protecting its exclusivity and its identity as a place where the game is played the way many believe it was meant to be.
