Mayport sits at the mouth of the St. Johns River where it meets the Atlantic, and it's one of the more distinctive addresses in Florida golf — a working Navy town anchored by Naval Station Mayport, one of the largest fleet installations on the East Coast. That coastal setting gives Windy Harbor its name and its personality: sea breezes off the Atlantic are a constant presence here, turning a routine approach into a genuine question of club selection and making wind-reading as important a skill as any other in the bag.
The course plays on the northeast Florida landscape, a region where flat, sandy terrain and coastal scrub define the ground game. Jacksonville's golf scene is broader and more varied than it often gets credit for, with a strong mix of public, private, and military facilities — and a PGA Tour stop that has long kept competitive golf part of the local DNA.
As a military-affiliated facility, Windy Harbor likely serves an active-duty and veteran community that values accessible, no-frills golf with a genuine sense of camaraderie on and off the course.
