Flintrock Falls is the members' course at Lakeway Resort & Spa, carved through the cedar breaks and limestone terrain of the Texas Hill Country west of Austin. Jack Nicklaus designed the layout, which opened in 1999, and his fingerprints are unmistakable — bold risk-reward shaping, aggressive bunkering, and several holes that push playing angles right to the edge of the rocky ravines that give the course its name. The elevation changes and exposed limestone outcroppings are genuine, not decorative, and they demand real course management from tee to green.
The Hill Country setting means playing conditions shift noticeably through the seasons — cool and crisp in winter, brutally hot by midsummer, and at its most beautiful in spring when the wildflowers are out across the surrounding ranchland. The views across Lake Travis from several elevated tees are among the more dramatic backdrops in central Texas golf.
As a private club, Flintrock Falls maintains a quieter, unhurried atmosphere than the resort-facing public courses nearby. Membership here means regular access to a Nicklaus design that rewards local knowledge — wind patterns, firm bounces off caliche-hard turf, and the particular way this limestone country can make even a familiar hole play differently from one week to the next.
