Kvenvikmoen Golf

Alta sits at roughly 70 degrees north, well above the Arctic Circle, making Kvenvikmoen Golf one of the northernmost golf courses on the planet. The midnight sun arrives in earnest here from mid-May through late July, and the course takes full advantage — rounds are played at all hours, and teeing off at midnight under a sun that refuses to set is not a novelty but a genuine local tradition. Finnmark is Norway's largest and least populated county, a landscape of birch forest, Arctic tundra, and the wide, glacially carved Alta valley.

The course occupies the Kvenvikmoen area outside town, where the terrain is characteristically northern Norwegian — relatively flat river plain terrain giving way to birch-covered hillsides, with clean Arctic air and a short but intense summer growing season. Conditions can be demanding even in the height of summer, with cool temperatures and rapid weather changes typical of the sub-Arctic north.
