Breckenridge Golf Club sits at roughly 9,300 feet above sea level, making it one of the highest-elevation golf courses in the United States — and the only municipally owned course designed by Jack Nicklaus. That credential alone sets it apart. Nicklaus shaped the layout in 1987 around the natural contours of the Ten Mile Range, and the course is divided into 3 nines — Beaver, Bear, and Elk — meaning the 18-hole experience you play depends on which combination is in rotation that day.
At this altitude, the thin air adds significant distance to every shot, so familiar yardages become unreliable guides. The course plays through dense stands of pine and aspen, with the White River National Forest framing nearly every hole. Summit County's short mountain summer means the season runs roughly June through October, and afternoon thunderstorms are a near-daily ritual in July and August — early tee times are strongly advised.
Breckenridge the town is a serious ski destination that has grown into a legitimate year-round resort community, and the golf club reflects that ambition: a genuine destination layout, not simply an amenity.
